The Art of Papermaking

Discover the art of papermaking. Encourage your childlike creativity and wonder
to emerge during a day-long workshop for artists and creators. Wabi-sabi, the
quintessential Japanese aesthetic, the beauty of things modest and humble, will
be the thread that weaves through our creative process. The day will begin with
an art-talk and demonstration. Learn how to process kozo, the bark of the paper
mulberry and make beautiful sheets of washi to take home at the end of the day.

$98. per class includes supplies and taxes. Small group discounts and gift
certificates available.  Suitable for beginners as well as experienced
papermakers.

Espanola Valley Fiber Arts Center
Paper casting is truly a green art form and it’s one of the simplest
techniques to learn. It requires little in the way of specialized supplies
and equipment, but yields lovely results. During this day-long workshop
you will cast abaca fiber to create a lovely small vessel that can be
embellished with natural materials, paint, ink, kakishibu, thread, wire
and decorative paper. The possibilities are endless! At the end of the
class you will have a small vessel to take home to dry and remove from
the mold.

Wabi-sabi, the quintessential Japanese aesthetic, the beauty of things modest and humble, will be the thread that weaves through our creative process. This class can be taken in two sessions or in conjunction with Paper Casting.

Wednesday and Saturday, July 31, August 3, 10 am - 1pm

Fee: $90 + $10 material fee for one class.
$175 for two classes + $20 material fee
Minimum: 5 - 10 students per class.
